Director and teacher of Catalan
Catalan philologist, twenty-two years in the classroom. She runs the C1 groups and marks every mock exam herself, by hand.

Teacher of Spanish
He arrived from Montevideo in 2014 and knows exactly what it is like to fill in a form in a language you do not yet control. Accredited DELE examiner.
Mireia Solans
Catalan and the conversation club
Morning groups and Wednesday evenings at the club. Her rule: if you have not spoken for five minutes in an hour, the class has failed.

Catalan and Spanish for work
Twelve years in human resources before he started teaching. He builds the 20:15 groups around real emails, meetings and phone calls.
In the classroom
What an hour and a half looks like
The shape of a class never changes, because at eight in the evening nobody has the energy to work out what is coming next.
Ten minutes of talking
We start in the language, in pairs, about something that happened to you this week. Arriving late means missing this, not the grammar.
Half an hour on one rule
One structure per session, explained with examples you will use tomorrow. No lists of exceptions that nobody remembers by Thursday.
Forty minutes using it
A call to the insurer, a complaint to the landlord, a work meeting. You rehearse it out loud until it comes out without thinking.
Ten minutes to close
Your teacher puts three mistakes heard that evening on the board, without saying whose they were, and leaves a one-page summary in the online classroom.

Why the teachers do not rotate
Everyone here is on a salaried contract and is paid for preparation and marking, not only for classroom hours. It costs the school more, and it is the reason an A1 group reaches B1 with the same person in front of them: someone who already knows who misses Thursdays because of a night shift, and who needs the pronouns explained once more without having to ask. Once a term all nine of us sit down and go through every group, student by student, and anyone who has stalled gets a phone call from us before they give up.
